The PPP
presentation allowed me to put together my work from the past 3 years. Through
doing this, I realised how much I have developed and grown as a designer and a
professional. My work is more conceptual as I have learnt to work methodically,
resulting in as professional, high quality finish of work.
I came to
LCA with little knowledge of Graphic Design or its technologies. As the year
developed I started to find my feet, but still unsure of what it was that I
wanted specialise in. In level 5 I expected by the end that I would be a
professional working at a very high standard, knowing and practicing my
specialist area. In fact, my confidence reduced as I saw others around me start
to excel and become more confident about their future within Graphic Design. I
was still very unsure, yet the work was of a high standard.
Level 6 has been my most enjoyable year. I
have discovered through experimentation and working on a range of briefs that I
would like to specialise in Type. I have enjoyed most briefs thoroughly and had
trouble with others (client based). I have, over the years, learnt how to deal
with clients which ensured that my projects were finished in time for the
deadline, and to a high standard.
In response
to this professional standard of work, I have become more confident. Contacting
professionals and designers that I would like to work with is now a part of my day-to-day
routine.
Creating relationships is something which I
have always overlooked, thinking that the professional world wouldn’t be
interested in a student. Yet, through doing this, I managed to get 2
internships and a potential job offer. With this, my confidence has grown once
more, it also created a realisation that, I too, am a professional now.
These past
few years have allowed me to discover myself as a designer, experience the good
and the bad of being a freelancer and ultimately, given me the confidence to be
the professional that I have been working towards. My practice is much more
focussed and will aid me when applying for the careers that I dream of.
