PPP Presentation

- This introduction is corny, just like me

- Work with a professionals and clients
- Gather more contacts
- Get a placement
- Be proud of my work
- Gain more confidence and be more decisive
- Overcome any weaknesses
- Have an idea of where/what I would like
 to do

- Thought I knew a lot when it came to Graphic Design
- Realised I had very basic skills
- Wasn't that confident with my work
- Compared it to other people on the course

- First 'taste' of type and really enjoyed it
- First group collaborative
- Learnt how to compromise on design
- Became more confident with voicing opinions
- Got into Secret 7"
- Boosted confidence

- Convinced this would be the year that I produced work that I loved

- Hopefully have a better idea of what wanted to do within GD
After a little breakdown midway through the year (still wasn't enjoying/liking my work)
Reflected on past work that I enjoyed
Started to do what I loved
- Use my hands and be more experimental and push digital work to be physical too (more real)

Secret 7”

Started to enjoy and like the work too
Confidence to post work online & get more exposure
- Learnt new skills (Illustrator, print, and how to communicate with professionals/designers online)

First publication
- This shows how digital work can then manifest into physical work too
Influenced through my writing COP
Modules Influence each other
Theory/conceptual work is so important

Experimented with binding and material etc

- Uncanny Typeface (through exploration of Graphology)

- Influenced by a COP brief
- Created my first working typeface loved this
- I made a decision (overcame this weakness of being indecisive and unconfident)
- Type is something that I would like to go into
- I have learnt a lot and felt I was on my way to becoming a professional rather than sill being a student.

- I tend to put a lot of pressure on myself (give myself unrealistic deadlines)
- I have now learnt to plan my time more realistically
- Learnt how to switch off

- Experience over Summer
Worked at FX studio/printers
Designing, printing and producing everything in-house
Realised I should be doing this
Extend briefs
Gained clients
Built relationships professionals

Still wasn’t sure EXACTLY what I wanted to go into
Love type but not focus just on type
- I overcame one of my wekanesses and was very decisive choosing briefs
- Chose a range of briefs

Cover all bases

Collaboration with designer at FX (internship/job from over 2015 summer)
Client job
- Created second working typeface (First Logotype)
Pushed work further to produce something physical

Experimented with etching and engraving to personalise

- Same client from previous brief
- The client came directly to me (instead of through the studio)
Asked to design limited edition range cricket bat designs
Links to being very hands on with my work
Measuring and fitting
Accuracy

Really love the outcome

- January Placement
Design Studio called Marvellous in Leeds
- Specialise in WEB/ECOMMERCE
I learnt about the software they use
How they run their projects
Job roles
What the industry wants from a designer

Put me at ease all started with basic skills (like us) and had to learn whilst there

Re-branded in the week I was there
- They asked me to create a Logo typeface
- Wanted to make it into a working typeface to show them I will work hard
- Needed 2 pieces of software
- Could only get one of the two
- Stressed! They understand- rather than stressing ask for help (downfall- I don't like asking for help - I learnt from that)
- Feel more professional for talking about it
- They gave me lots of crits
- Created a publication, poasters and other work (They were impressed)
They offered me a full time internship with a good chance of a job at the end of it
CONFIDENCE BOOST
Web and typography are the two aspects I am most interested in

After leaving here (loved it) I wanted to start playing with websites more, something I’m interested in
Also for experience for when I go back

Spoke to a few GD who said to work mostly digital AMAP since it’s all going that way (especially for portfolio)

Client asked to update their Salon brochure
- Very hands on work (create mock ups)
- Had to be in contact with the printers (made a contact, Rob)
Left are 2 images are 2 of the brochure pages
- I pushed brief further
- Made a 1 page website
Inspired through my time spent interning

Would be good to have in portfolio for internship

I love freelance work- range of briefs and clients (When it goes well)
- Decided I want to work in a studio
- More stable and less stressful (you know you’ll be paid)
- Made a decision not to make a logo personal branding
I will develop my online presence more
Create simple cards with my name and contact details

This is my next project (starting next week)

Learnt to like my work
Make decisions and be confident with them
To speak to people
Ask for help
Freelance is something that I enjoy when it all goes well
Had both good and bad clients
Learnt how to handle them
- Feel more like a Professional than a student

Learnt a lot
How to overcome things

Surpassed my own expectations (done all on list)

Travelling for 9 weeks in June (Croatia and Thailand)
Already found a studio in Thailand I am going to visit (WhiteSpace and others)
Graduate in November
Go to Sweden (Work Placement (stay with family friend))
Visit more studios
In March go to Australia and work over there for as long as I can/maybe even move

Travelled AMAP
Experience/gain contacts in as many countries as possible

Still do freelance work (to support my travels etc)

Have lots of experience (studio)
Freelance on the side
Have my own house

Be working my way up the ‘Designer Ladder’

Have a solid career
Maybe even a small business of my own
Have a house in UK & abroad

Overall happy and successful, proud and making a difference

Presentation Conclusion

Overall, I felt that the presentation went well. I stayed within the 10 minute time limit and spoke confidently and clearly about my progress and plans.
