Evaluation

David is in fact a regular client.
I have enjoyed creating these invites and being able to help my client to tick one more thing off their long list of Wedding plans. They were both lovely to work with and it just so seems that we all had a very similar idea, visually of how the designs would look.
"It is just what we wanted. You have taken the image from my mind. They are personalised, unique and perfect for our big day. Thank you so much. You were very professional, efficient and speedy with your turn around of our invites and RSVP cards. Thank you again!David & Emily"
I hope to work with this client again in the near future.

Internship/Work Experience: Marvellous Design Agency

After contacting a family friend, I was able to secure a 2 week internship at Label Media, which actually re-branded to Marvellous whilst I was there.

My Brief

Overview: To create a logotype for their newly re-branded web design studio

I worked alone for this brief, asking for regular crits and feedback along the way from the other 5 designers including the member of staff who designed the original 'M' (Marvellous) logo.

I really enjoyed working on this brief and creating something which will be used within the company.

Experience

Whilst at Marvellous I learnt new skills and shortcuts on Illustrator and other software which speeds up my designing time. I also gained the experience of being in a professional design studio environment. Whilst in the studio I realised that I was with like minded people who I have kept in contact with even after leaving my placement.
In addition to this, I was able to see how a website is created from the beginning; speaking to the client, arranging and negotiating including giving quotes, to the middle; constantly keeping in touch with the client through online portals and viewing which software is used and how the websites are actually developed (including coding front and back end and the physical wire frames and aesthetical designs), to the end; creating and sending invoices, ensuring that the client is satisfied, how they will pay for the upkeep and maintenance of the site etc
After speaking to multiple staff members about their own career opportunities and experience, I soon learnt that most of them had little experience if any with the software that they now use on a daily basis. Most of the technical and design skills that they now hold were learnt once hired as training courses were offered to them. This was a relief to know as I was under the impression that Studio's almost expect you to have this knowledge already.

At the end of my placement, I was offered a longer-term internship (6 months - a year) once I finish university in which I will more than happily take them up on.

Reference From Marvellous

You created something 'Marvellous'.
We were all impressed with your work ethic and professionalism. You created more than asked of you and finished it to a very high standard. Again, we were so very impressed! Your baking skills may have swayed us too!
It is a great skill to have, to be able to exhaust a brief and offer more to the client that is. This can result in additional work for the company, and yourself of course. Always aim to do this where you can, it also shows that you have great passion and enthusiasm for design and what you are doing.I can tell that you enjoyed this brief. I am so glad that we could give you this experience of being in the 'real world'.
As a designer and a person, you are a strong willed and friendly character who would fit into any studio environment, so do not worry about finding a job after your travels. With this I would like to remind you that we have internships running here throughout the year which usually then develop into full time jobs. When you return, do get in touch. We would love to work with you again.
It was a real pleasure to work with you. Please stay in touch!

Contacting Professionals: Nectar Creative

It is most definitely is who you know, not what you know.

Through a family friend, I was able to contact a graphic designer. I sent my portfolio for a review.

Nectar Creative Website

Nectar have worked with some rather large clients.
As I am originally from Wigan, I recognised most of their work, such as the Wigan Council/Wign Rugby branding. It can be seen all over the town centre.
Their work ranges from print and branding to web and publication. They tend to work with companies that have a positive effect on the community and environment, using 'Brilliant Bioenergy' as one example.
This is actually a company that I would like to work for.

I am arranging to go for a tour around their studio after I granduate and hopefully secure myself a placement for a few weeks.

Conclusion

Communicating with this professional and getting such positive feedback really has given me a confidence boost. I am proud of my work and after this conversation, I know that others appreciate it too.
I will continue to work in the way that I do whilst reaching out to more professionals in order to gather a range of feedback to ensure that my work is the best that it possibly can be.
